Diwali 2026 Outfit Ideas: How to Choose the Right Kurta Set
Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Between Dhanteras shopping, Lakshmi puja at home and card parties with friends, it's a week of very different occasions – and one outfit rarely suits them all. Here's how to choose a kurta set for each.
Order by 28 October
Every être outfit is made to order: it's dispatched in 3–5 days and usually reaches you in 6–10 days. To have it in hand before Diwali, order by 28 October. Ordering earlier leaves time for a free size exchange if you need one.
1. Pick the fabric for the occasion
Velvet – for the big night
Velvet reads rich and festive under evening lights, and it suits the cooler November evenings in north India. Try the Amara deep plum velvet kurta set with embroidery and a dupatta, or Mahira, a velvet kurta with salwar.
Black crepe – for the Diwali party
Want to stand out in a room full of pink and yellow? Go black. Against a dark outfit, gold jewellery and diya light glow twice as bright. Our Être Noire Signature Occasion Set is cut from structured matte black crepe, with tonal embroidered lace on the sleeves and straight tailored trousers – no dupatta to manage at the card table, and it holds its shape all night. Read why black works for Diwali, and how to style it.
Gazi silk – for puja and family dinners
Silk with embroidery is dressy without being heavy. Our gazi silk sets – Zohra, Samaira and Rivaaz – work for the puja and for visiting family.
Kota and bandhani – for day events
Lighter weaves stay comfortable through long days of cooking, guests and gifting. Look at Palaash, an orange kota set, or Aboli in green bandhani.
Ikat and cotton – for Dhanteras and office celebrations
Ikat booti sets like Rose and Marigold are festive enough for an office Diwali lunch and easy enough to wear again all winter.
2. Choose the right silhouette
- Straight kurta with pants – the easiest to move in; good for a busy puja day.
- Kurta with salwar – more traditional, and comfortable for sitting on the floor.
- Kaftan-style sets – relaxed and forgiving; see Ayana.
- Festive co-ords – for card parties and a more modern look, like the Purple & Pink Shimmer co-ord or Être Noire.
3. Get the fit right
Every style comes in sizes XS to 5XL at the same price in every size, and because we make each piece after you order, we can adjust the fit: a longer salwar, a different sleeve length or a roomier armhole, at no extra cost. Add it in your order note at checkout, or message us on WhatsApp. How custom fit works.
4. Style it
- Pair velvet and silk with statement earrings and keep the neckline bare.
- With black, go big on gold jhumkas or polki – the dark base makes them pop.
- With embroidered kurtas, let the embroidery lead – choose plain juttis or kolhapuris.
- Ikat and kota sets look great with silver jewellery and a bindi.
