What Makes a Co-ord Set Actually Comfortable? Fabric, Fit and the Details That Matter

Co-ord sets look effortless. But anyone who has spent a humid afternoon in a stiff polyester set knows that looking easy and feeling easy are two different things. The difference comes down to three things: the fabric, the fit, and the small details that most brands skip.

1. Fabric comes first

In Indian weather, the fabric decides whether you're comfortable at 4pm. Here's how the common co-ord fabrics compare.

Cotton linen – the all-rounder

A cotton-linen blend breathes like linen but feels softer against the skin, creases less, and gets better with every wash. It's the reason our Alexis Beige and Alexis Olive Sage sets are our best-sellers: polished enough for the office, cool enough for a long commute. For something more fluid, the new Liora kaftan set uses the same fabric in a relaxed kaftan top with statement wide sleeves.

Pure linen – coolest, but crumples

Pure linen is the most breathable of all, but it wrinkles within minutes of sitting down. Lovely for a holiday; less forgiving for a workday.

Cotton and mulmul – light and airy

Cotton is soft and easy to care for; mulmul is cotton woven so fine it feels almost weightless. Our new Ikat Cotton Shirt & Mulmul Pants set pairs a crisp printed cotton shirt with airy mulmul trousers – structure on top, softness below.

Chambray and cotton denim – structure without the stiffness

Chambray looks like denim but is woven lighter, so it breathes far better than your jeans. The Alexis Denim Chambray set gives you the denim look in a fabric you can wear all day. Prefer a softer, washed denim? See the Azure Denim Comfort set.

What to avoid

Heavy polyester and stiff synthetic blends trap heat and feel clammy by midday. If a set looks shiny and doesn't crease at all, check the label.

2. Why solid "self" co-ords are everywhere

A self co-ord – top and bottom in one solid colour – is the easiest way to look put-together without trying. One colour from collar to hem creates a long, clean line that flatters every body. And because the pieces are plain, they split up easily: the top works with jeans, the trousers with a white shirt or a kurta. That's three outfits from one purchase. Soft, earthy shades like beige and olive sage are the easiest to mix with everything else in your wardrobe.

3. The "something extra"

Plenty of co-ords are just a matching top and bottom. What makes a set feel modern is a handful of small, thoughtful details:

  • A drawstring or tie waist – gives a relaxed shirt shape, and you control how defined it is.
  • A zip front or concealed placket – cleaner than a row of buttons, and no gaping.
  • Utility pockets – actually useful, and they add a little structure.
  • Wide-leg trousers with an elasticated waist – the comfort of lounge pants, the look of tailoring.
  • A collar – instantly makes a set office-ready.

Alexis has all five – which is exactly why it's become our signature.

4. Fit is the last piece

Even the best fabric feels wrong if the fit is off. Every être co-ord is made to order in sizes XS to 5XL, at the same price in every size. You can pick a different size for the top and the bottom, and ask for a longer trouser or a roomier armhole in your order note – free of charge. Need 6XL or 7XL? WhatsApp us. How custom fit works.

5. One set, three ways

  • Office: wear the full set with loafers and a structured tote. Tie the waist neatly.
  • Weekend: the trousers with a white tee and sneakers; the shirt left open as a light jacket.
  • Travel: the full set with flat sandals – comfortable for a long flight, smart enough when you land.

Frequently asked questions

Which fabric is best for a co-ord set in Indian summers?

Cotton linen is the best all-rounder – breathable like linen, but softer and less prone to creasing. Mulmul and lightweight cotton are good for very hot, humid days.

Do cotton linen co-ords wrinkle?

A little, which is part of their relaxed charm – but far less than pure linen. A quick steam brings them back.

Can I wear the top and bottom separately?

Yes, and you should. Solid-colour sets in particular pair easily with jeans, plain shirts and kurtas.

How do I wash a cotton linen co-ord?

Gentle machine wash, cold. Cotton linen softens with every wash.
